Easy Homemade Hummus
Did you know that you can make your own hummus? It only takes 5 minutes and a few ingredients.
Easy Homemade Hummus Recipe:
Ingredients:
1 Can (15 ounces) Chickpeas, also called Garbanzo beans, drained and rinsed
1 garlic clove
1/4 Cup olive oil
2 TB Tahini (you can substitute nut butter if you don’t have tahini)
2 TB fresh lemon juice
2 tsp Cumin
pinch of salt
paprika for garnish
Serve with carrots, celery, cucumbers, peppers and pita bread.
Directions:
Put the chickpeas, garlic, olive oil, Tahini, lemon juice, cumin and salt in a food processor. Puree until smooth, about 4-5 minutes. You may need to pause and scrape the sides with a spatula a couple of times. Add a little water if needed until desired consistency.
Taste and season to adjust flavor by adding a little more garlic, lemon juice, salt or cumin as preferred.
Transfer to a serving bowl, garnish with a sprinkle of paprika.
Chef’s Notes:
Serve with whole wheat pita, grilled and cut into triangles.
Variations:
If you oil free, just swap out the olive oil with water.
Add 1 Can (15 oz) of white beans, Cannelloni beans are our favorite.
Add 1 jar of roasted red peppers, drained and rinsed. Garnish with a crushed red pepper flakes.
Add 1 small jar of store bought hummus. Garnish with toasted pine nuts.
Enjoy!
