Gift Ideas for Teacher Appreciation Week 📚

Well, since I am a teacher, I am particularly excited that tomorrow kicks off our appreciation week!

Teacher Appreciation Week - I’m a teacher, what’s your superpower?

Over the past 4 years, at the elementary school where I work, our incredibly supportive PTO has planned so many wonderful things for the teachers and the students that I have teared up at least 2-3 times each week, every year! Making us feel truly appreciated for doing what we love to do, teach!

Some of the most meaningful recognition comes from our student’s kind words and sweet notes of thanks and appreciation.  One that will always stand out to me, “Your smile lights up the whole room!” Where do kids come up with this stuff?! 😃

Occasionally, I get asked, “What do teachers really want?” so I thought I would share a few gift ideas that I have loved:

  • A personalized note of appreciation or an email of encouragement is always nice to receive, any time of the year.

  • You can’t go wrong with gift cards! Target, Starbucks, dinner out, all great ideas.

  • I also absolutely love anything personalized. I keep it in my classroom and year after year, when students come back to visit, they always point out, “You still have that?”

  • School supplies! It may sound so silly, but every teacher loves fun pens, markers, stickers, truly any kind of school supplies that they can use in their classroom… we love!

  • Tickets to an event, especially if you know what your teacher likes or if they have a favorite team. Sporting events, concerts, broadway shows and movie passes are always a fun evening out.

As much as we love the things I’ve mentioned above, nothing compares to having supportive parents who recognize that we can’t do it alone. It takes cooperation, open communication and compassion between us so that we can make sure that your child is receiving the best education for their personal abilities.

Sending your kids to school with a good nights rest and a healthy breakfast sets them up for success. Discussing what we did in class, reinforces what they learned that day and encouraging them to read as often as possible, will help develop their curiosity.

As a teacher, I’d like to thank you; parents, grandparents, older siblings, aunts & uncles, neighbors, car pool & bus drivers, lunch packers, cafeteria workers, book bag checkers, volunteers, student aids & office administrators for all that you do! It really does take a village.
